Abstract

This article aims to investigate the reaffirmation of stereotypes of ideal female body through Instagram. For that, we bring reflections on the dynamics that involve social media, Instagram and the action of the algorithm within the platform, in addition to an analysis of hashtags supported by the Grounded Theory (GT) methodology in order to understand whether the dynamics of the platform acts in the reproduction and validation of stereotypes linked to beauty. We verified, finally, that the structuring of the platform, together with algorithmic filters, tend to create bubbles of content and information similar to what is already consumed by the user through their searches and interactions, and that in the case of consumers of content related to appearance and body beauty, aesthetic prototypes that reinforce thinness and youth are disseminated through the constant repetition of posts that address the subject.
